How to Store Tongkat Ali Root Slices (and Brewed Tea) So They Stay Fresh

How to store Tongkat Ali root slices: airtight, cool, dark and dry. Plus how to keep brewed tea in the fridge, signs of mold or spoilage, and what to do when a parcel arrives.

Dried Tongkat Ali roots being cleaned by hand before slicing and packing

How do you store Tongkat Ali root slices? Keep them airtight, cool, dark and dry — in the original sealed pack or a clean airtight container in a cupboard, away from sunlight, heat and steam. Moisture is the enemy: use dry hands, reseal after each use, and throw the slices away if you ever see mold or smell anything sour or musty.

When Your Parcel Arrives

Our slices ship vacuum-sealed from Malaysia, and a parcel can spend a few weeks in transit. When it arrives:

  1. Check the seal. The pack should be intact and tight.
  2. Look and smell. Slices should be dry and firm with a clean, woody smell.
  3. Photograph any problem — broken seal, dampness or visible mold — and contact us within 7 days. Those cases are reshipped free under our returns and reship policy.

Fridge or Freezer?

For dried root, usually neither. Cold slices collect condensation every time the container is opened in a warm kitchen, and moisture is what leads to mold. A cupboard is better. If you live somewhere very humid, use an airtight container with a food-safe desiccant, and keep only a small working supply out.

Storing Brewed Tea

  • Cool promptly, then refrigerate in a clean, covered bottle or jar.
  • Batch-brewing (8–10 slices in 3–4 litres) is convenient; many people use the batch within about five to seven days.
  • Throw it out if it smells sour, tastes off, turns cloudy or shows any growth.
  • Used slices can be simmered again the same day or the next; do not keep wet slices at room temperature.

We do not publish a validated storage time for prepared tea, so treat it like any home-made herbal drink and trust your senses.

Signs the Root Should Be Discarded

  • Fuzzy, powdery or coloured spots of mold
  • Sour, musty or “damp cellar” smell
  • Slices that feel soft, damp or sticky
  • Insects or webbing in the container

Do not rinse, re-dry or boil moldy root to “rescue” it.

Does It Lose Strength Over Time?

Dried botanicals can slowly lose aroma and flavour, and good storage slows that down. We do not publish stability testing, so we cannot give a figure for how long any compound lasts — another reason to buy an amount you will use rather than the largest pack by default. The price-per-serving page helps you size an order.

Frequently asked questions

How should I store Tongkat Ali root slices?

Keep them in the original sealed pack or a clean, dry, airtight container, away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity — a cool cupboard is ideal. Always use dry hands or a dry spoon.

Do Tongkat Ali root slices expire?

Dried root keeps well when it stays dry, but it is still a natural food product. Follow any date or storage instruction on the package; we do not publish a product-specific shelf-life study.

Should I refrigerate dried Tongkat Ali root?

It is usually unnecessary and can backfire: cold slices attract condensation each time the container is opened. A cool, dry cupboard is better. In a very humid climate, a well-sealed container with a food-safe desiccant helps.

How do I know if Tongkat Ali root has gone bad?

Discard it if you see fuzzy or powdery mold, notice a sour or musty smell, or find the slices damp or soft. Do not try to wash or re-dry moldy root.

How long does brewed Tongkat Ali tea last in the fridge?

Cool it promptly and refrigerate it in a clean, covered container. Many people who batch-brew use it within about five to seven days; discard it sooner if it smells sour or turns cloudy. We do not publish a validated storage time for prepared tea.

What happens if my order is lost or arrives damaged?

If tracking confirms the parcel was lost, or it arrives damaged, unsealed, moldy or with the wrong item, send photos within 7 days and we reship at no cost. Because it is a food product, opened or change-of-mind orders can’t be returned. See the returns policy.

How do you brew Red Tongkat Ali root slices?

Add 2–3 slices to 500 ml–1 L of water, bring to a boil, simmer 15–30 minutes to taste, then strain and drink warm or chilled. You can rebrew the same slices while colour and flavour remain. Full steps are in our brewing guide.
